“I have a
dream speech”
-
I want to trace the multiple texts he borrowed
from
For
years, he had spoken about dreams, quoted from "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", and referred extensively to the Bible.
The idea of constitutional rights as an "unfulfilled promise"
was first thought of by Clearence Jones years, also The
closing passage from King's speech partially resembles Archibald Carey, Jr.'s address to the 1952 Republican National Convention. King also was said to have built on Prathia Hall’s speech at
the site of a burned-down African American church in Terrell County,
Georgia on September 1962, in which she used the used the phrase "I have a
dream"
Family Guy
References, Peter as the bumbling overweight Dad (Homer
Simpson, Jackie Gleanson on The Honeymooners, Fred Flinstone)- The
bumbling man and/or dad—if you’ve watched a sitcom lately you have an idea of
who he might be. Doug from the sitcom The
King of Queens, Jim from “According
to Jim”, Homer Simpson the hit show “The
Simpsons” and Fred Flinstone from “The
Flinstones”. These i’m sure are all familiar names. He almost always does something
wrong every episode; his most common slipups include lying, forgetting,
breaking, ruining dinner, or saying the wrong thing. The wife or woman is
often the complete opposite. Smart as ever, well balanced and all-knowing.
She comes through the door with kids and groceries in hand to come to a "dad"
that couldn’t even handle the simple task of putting the lasagna in the oven to
heat up (the stupid male let it sit out on the counter, fed it to the dog, used
it as a chair cushion—the more absurdly moronic the better). He is
chided, belittled, and given a kiss—she still loves her husband even if he is a
stupid man.
Fantastic Voyage- Stewie shrinks to go in Peter and fight
future
children; Willy
Wonka- family guy parody, Gene Wilder ( Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory),
Johnny Depp (Charlie and the Chocolate factory), Ronald Dahl book Charlie and
